Great job again by all the students. Just a bit dissapointed that they chose the same person as a lead 2 years in a row. Shouldn't they be giving other kids a chance.
I know that there were also kids not allowed to participate. Just a shame. Couldn't they have 2 casts , one for each of the performances? Just a suggestion.

They did. Would you be saying the same thing about a child being a starting player on the basketball team? If a child is talented then...

Like I said they are KIDS. And all kids should be given a chance, talented or not. This is grade school not a performing arts school. There are no talent scouts coming to our school for sports or theater. I'm sorry you feel that only the talented should be able to participate.

So much for the social and emotional learning that the school supposedly pushes.

Two thumbs up to the last commenter. I couldn't agree more... so much for Social Emotional Learning when 7th & 8th graders are being cut from the school play. It take a lot of courage for these children to try out and then to see younger students getting the parts. What does this do to their self-esteem? This isn't Broadway - it's Pleasantdale (or UNPleasantdale for some children).

Maybe the children who made it worked really hard to get those parts. Maybe those children that are the starting players of the athletic teams work really hard to be there. We can't discount hard work, drive and ambition. We all need someone to set the bar a little higher for us so we work harder to achieve what we really want. Then when we are successful, we have learned and experienced that hard work does pay off. The "every child gets a trophy" theory leads to complacency and a sense of entitlement that will never serve them well in the future.
