Wow, I was just explaining this to my child who was telling me how much better Pdale was than other schools because they practiced so much more for the "big tests that all the schools take". The conclusion; my kid said, "so we cheat?" See? even our kids can figure it out when they have ALL the information....from the mouth of babes!!!!!!

According to ISBE kids are not supposed to prepare for tests beyond getting a good breakfast and a good nights sleep. New question formats are to be introduced into curriculum on reg. tests so that kids are comfortable with them. Other than that, standardized tests require no preparation. They are in place to help us evaluate how well we teach, not how well we cheat!!!
Better than other schools? We need to get our kids off the kool-aid! Between getting a trophy for just participating in a sport and every student is a B student, our kids are going to have no preparation for real life. When are they taught how to win AND lose? Don't we learn more sometimes when we are not told we are good at something? When we have to work hard at something? Some of the most successful people I know are the ones who were C students and struggled to get C's - they know what it is like to work hard. Nothing was handed to them. What about our kids? Can our district honestly say we are not giving out A's - with the whole retake implementation? Especially when the retakes are the same test as the original.

It is ashame that the NCLB act, although started with good intentions, has driven schools to focus more on test taking, in lieu of teaching!
Isn't that why D107 hired Dr. Wick? To help the children learn how to prepare for tests?

Do we get retakes on standardized tests? NO - RETAKES ARE NOT PART OF NORMAL LIFE! What are we teaching our kids?
