We would like to say thank you to everyone that came out for the canidates' forum last night.
It was refreshing, for a change, to see a standing room only audience attend a school related event.
We hope everyone was able to learn a little bit more about each of the candidates on our slate, especially since many people don't know all of us.
Today we set a record for the number of people that have visited our blog. It just goes to show that communication really is a hot topic in our school district.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints last evening, many folks did not have a chance to hear their question asked and answered. We would like to suggest that people use our blog to ask for clarifications on statements that were made or to ask questions that they would like answered. We will do our best to respond to as many as we can.

I have a question, Did Patti Essig answer any questions last night?
I wanted to attend last night's forum, but could not due to family constraints. If I had attended, I wanted to make a comment as follows. In less than two years of involvement with the district (our oldest child is in first grade), we have heard many negative comments about the current superintendent. I don't know the superintendent personally, however, the very fact that there seems to be a widespread perception of a dictatorial style is concerning. When you hear the same feedback repeatedly, the validity of that feedback increases. The fact that administrators were at the forum feels inappropriate, as well. If there is already a climate where the superintendent squashes honest feedback or dissenting opinions, this was a perfect demonstration. I am disheartened to hear that the morale of our teachers is poor, because our teachers have a difficult enough job without having to worry that a dissenting opinion will put them on a "black list". I believe that the board members are elected to balance the will of the superintendent. If you can provide the "check and balance" you tout, I will be a supporter - not just in the election, but after that as well.
Among other things I really hope that since you guys are after the bigger picture than just test scores, that you will FORCE the district to publish the data that LTHS is willing to provide us on how are our graduates do once they reach high school. I think it's a shame that the superintendent has convinced the Board that this data is not relevant or that it's not available.
Of course, I realize you can only force something to happen if you have a majority (4 votes) on the Board. That's why I'm voting your straight ticket and I hope everyone else on this blog does, too!
But, I
YES WE CAN!!!!
Where did the stat of $200 for administrators to drive between the schools come from? If accurate, this is disturbing and excessive. IRS-approved mileage reimbursement would be palatable, however, if you multiplied the number of months by the number of administrators receiving this stipend by the amount, I would be willing to bet we would be talking at least $30,000 in the last seven years - at a minimum!
